Hey guys! Sorry for being late. The question of the day is: What is your viewpoint on the shutdown of the EVHS Confessions page? Comment below with what you think!
Personally, I think it might not be fair to take down the site, especially to people who want to have a place to give anonymous confessions. However, I think we also need to see the safety aspect of the situation and maybe find a better way to put up confessions that will not hurt anyone's feelings.
Honestly, I'm kind of sad that the page was taken down. I really enjoyed reading the confessions there. I don't think that shutting down the page was fair for those students who used the page to express their feelings. That page really did help some students. I know that Mr. Kleckner was trying to do the right thing, but I'm still unhappy about the page having to be taken down.
Personally I don't really care if the page is taken down or not because I rarely visit the page anyways. Even though it doesn't matter to me that it stays or not, I still think it should not be taken down. We just need the admin to control what posts should be posted on the page and what posts shouldn't.
yeah i think that it wasn't a good idea to take the page down, because it's a page where students can share their feelings or vent about something happening at school. It could also be a place to get things off of their chest. i mean obviously there are going to be some immature people that say things, but that's always going to happen anywhere and shutting down a site already this widely known and popular would just create more problems.
Although I rarely visit the page, I don't think it should have been taken down. The page helped many students express themselves. There only needs to be better control on the posts that appear on the page. The students should have a way to make anonymous confessions.
I think that it wasn't a good idea to take down the confessions page. I know Mr. Kleckner was just trying to protect the students of the school, but he ended up turning many students against him, and now a lot of people will probably rebel against him. But I also think that the person who ran the page should've been more careful about what they were posting.
Honestly, even though the page's posts could have been monitored better, the page should not have been taken down. Shy people, like me, are afraid to say how they feel in real life so having a confessions page was perfect. I looked at the page regularly, and even though none of the confessions were about me, it still made me happy to see nice things written about other people. Plus, many other schools have confession pages and Kleckner didn't identify which California law the page was violating. On the other hand, I understand Kleckner's concerns about retaining our school's reputation. He should've offered an alternative solution instead of threatening the students to shut down the page altogether.
In my opinion, the EVHS confessions page should not have been taking down. But I agree that the posts should better monitored and have better filtered of what the admins are willing to post. I realize Mr. Kleckner was trying to do good for the whole school and do what he thinks is right for everyone but the way he approached it made some students feel attacked which caused the petition. To sum up, I see Mr. Kleckner's good intentions but he should have offered alternative ideas than to shut the page down completely.
I feel that Kleckner did do an action that was meant to benefit our school in total. Although the question a lot of students are asking, "did he take it too far to threaten and demand for the page to be removed?". As this page has come to symbolize student freedom and has even come to represent the extend of student resistance. Whether his actions will actually help our school's society by preventing harm, or just lead to the even more mistrust of students' at EVHS as the cancelation of a innocent page, will never be known.

ReplyDeleteTo tell you the truth i never knew that we even had a EVHS confessions page so i have no point of view on topics like this.
