Blog #4- Exploratory Writing
From the perspective of an animal on the farm, I would be easily swayed by Squealer's convincing words because I definitely would not want Mr. Jones to return and claim the farm back. Squealer persuades the animals that Napoleon only wants the best for us, thus not letting the animals make the decisions. As an animal on the farm, it sounds reasonable to me as Napoleon is the most intelligent and probably the best animal, if any, to make the rules. From the reader's point of view, we can easily see that Squealer's statement is corrupt and misleading. Relating to real world events, we can compare Napoleons's rule to a absolute monarchy or dictatorship. It is shown through the actions of Napoleon that he is turning into a dictator. In the beginning, all the animals were equal and had equal food rations. Later, the pigs' rations increased while the other animals' rations decreased. As the story progressed, the pigs started making decisions, but had to be ratified by a majority vote. Now, the animals' voting rights were taken away and only Napoleon is permitted to make the decisions. Overall, Squealer's reasoning is misleading and corrupt, but if I were an animal I could be easily convinced by his reasoning.
Blog Post #3 - Qualities of a Leader
Intelligence is an important quality for a leader to possess, but it is not the only characteristic that he/she should acquire. Personally, I believe a leader should have the ability to make decisions that please the people and is fair. The actions and decisions made by the leader is crucial to deciding whether he/she is a good leader or not. Indeed to do the right actions and make notions best for the people, intelligence plays a key role. Without intelligence, the leader may not be able to what is best for the people or not make the right decisions. In addition, the power that the leader possess es must be used wisely and not be corrupted. Even though some leaders are intelligent, they use their power unwisely leading to the dismay of many people. All in all, I believe intelligence is an essential quality in being a leader, but the usage of power and their actions is also critical.
